Meeting with the Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management
On Monday (18 June) a meeting between Deputy Minister Renata Szczęch and EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides was held in the Ministry of the Interior and Administration.
The EU Civil Protection Mechanism was the main topic of the conversation. The participants of the meeting discussed changes in the functioning of the mechanism, proposed by the European Commission. The changes include, i.a., creating a new European rescue reserve, “rescEU”.
Deputy Minister Szczęch underlined the involvement of the Polish rescue services in international actions within the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and pointed to the need of further discussion about its functioning.
Christos Stylianides is responsible for the European aid for victims of natural and man-made disasters worldwide. The EU is one of the biggest donors of humanitarian aid in the world. Its spending on this aim amounts to about 1% of the European budget.
