Minister of the Interior and Administration: Security of Poland and Poles is the most important, and the relocation mechanism is a real threat

The Polish government will not give in to pressure. The relocation mechanism violates the security policy and constitutes a real threat, and for us the security of Poland and Poles is the most important, said the Minister of the Interior and Administration referring to the statement of the EU Commissioner for Migration Dimitris Awramopulos on enforcement of the decision on relocation by Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary.

Minister Mariusz Błaszczak once again clearly stated that Poland did not agree to the European Commission exceeding its Treaty powers to interfere with Member States’ national competences in the area of security. In our position, we emphasize that the security policy is a national and not an EU policy. National security remains the sole responsibility of each Member State, stressed the Minister of the Interior and Administration.

The EU Commissioner for Migration Dimitris Awramopulos announced on Wednesday that if Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary did not start to implement the decision on relocation of refugees, then the European Commission would consider taking the action to the Court of Justice of the EU.

Commenting on this position, Minister of the Interior and Administration Mariusz Błaszczak stressed that the migration policy of the Polish government would not change. The Polish government will not give in to pressure. The relocation mechanism violates the security policy and constitutes a real threat, and for us the security of Poland and Poles is the most important, emphasized the Minister.

In the opinion of Poland, the relocation mechanism is wrong and constitutes a threat for the entire Europe. As the Minister of the Interior and Administration, I am responsible for security of Poland and Poles. I will not put this security at risk in the name of multiculturalism ideology that the European Union tries to impose on us, declared the Minister.

He added that unfortunately the European Commission failed to draw conclusions from the tragedies happening in Western Europe. We must be aware that hundred of thousands immigrants from North Africa or the Middle East coming to Europe constitute a natural base for Islamic terrorists. In consequence, terrorist attacks, like those recent ones, take place in European cities, summed up the Minister of the Interior and Administration.

Minister Mariusz Błaszczak reminded that Poland supported providing humanitarian aid and ensuring that the external borders of the European Union are protected. The Polish Government shows solidarity with our partners, e.g. by strengthening the protection of the European Union’s external borders. Aid can be extended for example under the operations initiated by FRONTEX. As regard the protection of the EU’s external border in Hungary or Bulgaria, we are at the disposal of our partners, declared the Minister of the Interior and Administration.
